TonalBrain Mix Quick Guide

TonalBrain Mix Quick Guide · 6 of 8

Set up your session

Put TonalBrain Mix on each track after your own clean-up plugins and before reverb and delay, not on the master bus. For more than 24 tracks, use buses.

Where to insert TonalBrain Mix

TonalBrain Mix listens to the sound that comes into it. Put it where it hears the sound that you want to mix.

  • After your own processing. Put tuning, noise reduction, gates and amp simulators before TonalBrain Mix.
  • Before time-based effects. Put reverb and delay on sends (aux or return tracks), not before TonalBrain Mix on the track.
  • No double processing. TonalBrain Mix has an EQ and a compressor on each track. If you keep your own EQ or compressor after it, set them flat or remove them.
  • One instance on each track.
  • Not on the master bus. Use a mastering tool there.

Tip

When you change a plugin before TonalBrain Mix, do a new analysis.

More than 24 tracks

One analysis includes up to 24 tracks. For larger sessions, send related tracks to a bus (for example backing vocals, percussion or strings) and put TonalBrain Mix only on the bus. Name the bus, for example “Vocal Bus”.

Keep all instances together

All instances must run in the same DAW process to show as tabs in one window. If your DAW can run plugins in separate processes (for example plugin sandboxing in Bitwig, “dedicated process” in REAPER or bridging in FL Studio), switch this off for TonalBrain Mix.
