TonalBrain Mix Quick Guide · 3 of 8
Mix the whole song
To mix the whole song, capture up to 4 sections of 10 seconds each, for example verse and chorus. TonalBrain Mix then gives one mix that works for all of them.
Capture more than one section
- 1Click ANALYSIS and play the first section, for example the chorus.Result: Section A is captured.
- 2Click + and play the next section, for example the verse.Result: Section B is captured.
- 3Do step 2 again for each section that you want. You can capture up to 4 sections (A to D).
- 4Click GET SUGGESTIONS.Result: The plugin uses all sections together and gives one result. This uses one credit.
- To remove a section, click × on it.
- A track that is silent in a section (for example the vocal in the intro) is correct. The plugin uses the sections where the track plays.
- If a track is silent in all sections, the plugin tells you before it uses a credit. Capture a section where that track plays.
- After you get suggestions, your sections stay in the panel. You can add one more section and get new suggestions.
One mix for the whole song
TonalBrain Mix gives one set of settings for the whole song. The settings do not change when the song goes from the verse to the chorus, and there is no link between the DAW timeline and the presets. One setting that works for all sections usually sounds more natural.
If you want a change in one part of the song, automate it in your DAW. All controls of TonalBrain Mix are normal plugin parameters, for example the output fader or the INTENSITY sliders.
Caution
If a control has automation in read mode, your DAW sets that control and replaces the new suggestions. Remove the automation before you get suggestions, or write it again after.
Buses
You can put TonalBrain Mix on a bus too, for example a drum bus. The plugin finds which tracks go into the bus and shows them under DETECTED ROUTING. If a track is not a bus, click NOT A BUS?. If the plugin asks “Is … your master output?”, click YES, IT IS or NO, IT'S A BUS.
